Night Guards / Occlusal Splints
Excessive jaw clenching called bruxism can accelerate tooth and jaw deterioration. After careful assessment and recognition of wear patterns, we may recommend a night guard, also called an occlusal splint to help manage the wear on your teeth and reduce pain associated with this condition. This is a customised device used at night to act as a cushion between the top and bottom teeth and prevent wear of tooth to tooth contact.
What are the causes of teeth grinding?
Stress or anxiety
Obstructive sleep apnea
Certain medications or recreational drugs
Snore Guards
Snoring can impact the quality of your own sleep and that of those around you. To help our patients most comfortably avoid this, we customize snore and night guards to their bite. Snore prevention mouth pieces look similar to a night guard, but instead of acting as a cushion or spacer, they keep the lower jaw forward, thereby preventing pressure on the larynx.
What are the causes of snoring?
Sleeping on your back
When the larynx is compressed by a relaxed jaw
Large tonsils or a long soft palate
Sports Mouthguards
Our dentists may recommend a sports mouth guard customised to fit your teeth. The thickness and type of mouthguard will depend on your sport and activity. We will also ask certain questions such as
- Type of activity played
- Frequency of activity
- Pre-existing jaw conditions
We can also customise a mouth guard to a colour of your choice and options such as insertion of your name inside the device.
